Title:
The Raben Project
(The Raven/Robin Project)

Genre:
Friendship/Romance

Pairings:
Raven/Robin, RaeRob

Summary:
A drabbles series of every RaeRob moment I could find in the show.

Notes:

Episode 3 (Final Exam) – Raven and Robin speak synchronously

The Quote:
Beast Boy: Is it just me or are these guys kicking our buts?
Raven and Robin: It's just you.

The Raben Project

They had almost given up.

Though now the concept seems laughable to them, in their early days and suffering from their easy defeat by the Hive, the Titans had almost disbanded. With the power of hindsight; after their team had survived betrayals, separations, accusations, countless defeats and even Hell

Well, it was slightly chilling to think that all of those experiences could have been unravelled this one day in the distant past, which Raven still looks back on and dreads. Because, as far as she can pinpoint, this day was the very first solid teeter towards that edge. Though at the time, if such an event had occurred, she would not have been concerned overmuch. This is what disturbs her the most.

She knows that Cyborg disagrees. Though it had been his cries ringing with finality after the abominable fight, he had once told Raven that he never considered this as a failed moment, or a close call. His statement is thus: they could never have disbanded here, because Robin would always have made his way back.

Raven finds this slightly illogical, but can see how firmly the metal Titan advocates this. She can understand his belief because it is true. Out of all of them, Robin is the only one who truly does not know how to give up.

She finds her current faith especially ironic, because at the time, although Raven conceded Robin to be an admirable fighter and a decent leader, she also found him very immature and overly confident.

At this point Robin was really the only team mate that Raven didn't interact with outside of battles and planning strategy. She respected his position as the Team Leader and he respected her privacy within the Tower. And while she (mostly) allowed herself to be included in team functions, and be harassed by the more exuberant members, the two birds more or less ignored each other.

This careless ignorance of Robin is what allowed her to be so confounded by their dual and emphatic reaction to Beast Boy when, at the beginning of their battle with the Hive, the green changeling had suggested they were losing.

It was the first time since the battle with Cinderblock just over a month ago that she was forced to take notice of the Titan leader like that. Robin was headstrong and cocksure in such a way that Raven had never assumed that they might have something in common.

And she could remember, as she tried to wipe the perplexed look from her features, fleetingly thinking, perhaps there's more to him than meets the eye.

Ah, I was getting ready to study for finals when I saw this pop up and go "must read NOW" 'cause I've been waiting for an update <3

Another thing I noticed in Final Exam was between Raven and BeastBoy walking into the tower and Starfire and Cyborg walking in. 'Cause when Starfire asks about Robin, Raven just pulls out his belt out of nowhere XD She was just holding that thing as close to her as possible until Starfire asked? I thought it was interesting.

ANYHOW another fabulous piece and I adore the last line. It really fits her, first-season wise.

You know, I know the exact scene you're talking about. I don't know why it never occurred to me to include it. Knowing Raven, though, she could have just stored it in some alternate dimension. =) But it is still an interesting point. I've noticed that pretty much whenever Raven interacts with Robin the moments always seem subtly significant or poignant. Or maybe that's just me -_-U.

But, as you've noticed, Raven doesn't have much of a presence at all in the first season. Kid you not - with the exception of a battle command in ONE episode- Robin doesn't even SPEAK to her until Nevermore.

Hopefully, we'll be fixing that. ;)

Oy, you're right, he really doesn't speak to her at all! I mean, they established RobStar in the second episode, so they didn't need to make Robin avoid Raven all through the first season.

Nevermore was a pretty sweet episode though. Robin's opinion towards Raven really seems to change throughout the series; at the beginning it seemed like he barely knew her, then he all-of-a-sudden knew her better than anyone [according to Raven in Birthmark xD]. That always confused me.

Y'know, speaking of, I have a question that maybe you don't know the answer to but maybe you do: in Robin and Raven's mind-meld...Raven saw all of Robin's past, but do you know if he got to see any of hers? They probably would've gone into more detail in the comic books for that scene [if that scene really existed, idk].

Yeah I remember the second episode. That episode is pretty much what made me turn to RaeRob. StarRob is just so in-your-face. Well, anyway...

In answer to your question: no, I don't think Robin saw anything of Raven's past. I will state that I don't have any secret source to tell me this. It's just a gut feeling, suggested by lines and scenes from the show (such as the "you've seen into my mind, let me see into yours" line). However, you are right: it would make the 'you know me better than anyone' statement not just come out of nowhere.

I remember wondering where that was coming from when it first played, but being willing to let it slide and not question it. We take what we can get, no?

Yes! What you should really watch (if you haven't already seen it) is "Proof that Robin diggs Raven" on YouTube. It's a clip from this episode and it's hilarious!... in an awesome way.
